HUNDREDS of people gathered at Hornsea's St Nicholas Church this afternoon for the funeral of a young woman killed in a car crash.

Jennie Stone, 28, died on Monday, February 18, when her Peugeot hit a tree on the A165 at Fraisthorpe – minutes after she had dropped her son Charlie, nine, off at Skipsea Primary School.

She was the sister of Private Gregg Stone, who was shot dead by the Taliban in Afghanistan on June 3 last year while serving with 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment.

Members of Jennie's family read moving eulogies during the service, which proceeded a short service at East Riding Crematorium in Octon, near Driffield.

Reverend Phil Lamb, who led the service in Hornsea, said: "To lose one child is horrific, but to lose two is just absolutely tragic and it has affected the whole town."
