Hymers girls dominate hockey event
HYMERS College were successful across the board at the Humberside Schools Mini Hockey Championships.
In an event played on home soil, the under-11 girls team kicked things off by winning the title.
The under-13s competitions had the added incentive that the winners and runners up from each would go on to the North East Finals.
The Hymers girls team recorded victories over Oasis Wintringham, Frederick Gough and Pocklington in the group stages – scoring 16 goals and conceding none.
Hymers' B team lost twice but did pick up a victory against St Bedes.
In the semi-finals, a 3-0 win over Healing set up a rematch of the group game with Pocklington, which Hymers had won 1-0 earlier in the day.
The final was another close match which ended 0-0 and had to be decided on penalty strokes – with Hymers winning 2-1 – although both teams go through to the next stage of the event.
In the boys under-13s, meanwhile, Hymers bounced back from losing 1-0 to Vale of Ancholme to see off Wintringham 4-1 and Hornsea 1-0 to go through to the North East event as runners up.
