WEST HULL: The 24th Hull Boys' Brigade company has organised an event to celebrate its 90th anniversary.

It will take place at Trinity Methodist Church on the corner of Newland Avenue and Cottingham Road, from 6.30pm on Saturday, October 2.

The event will include entertainment, a buffet and a 90th birthday cake, and a souvenir brochure has been created.

The group is also appealing for information on its founder, Sydney Beal, and would like to hear from former members.

Steve Lunn, company captain, said: "This is a fantastic achievement to remain active after 90 years' serving the community and a credit to all the leaders past and present for their invaluable commitment, dedication and hard work for keeping the 24th Hull Boys' Brigade Company going for so long."

EAST YORKS: A table-top sale will be held at the Floral Hall in Hornsea on Sunday, October 10.

It will run from 9am to 3pm and organisers said it will provide an opportunity to sell unwanted goods.

Tables cost £7 to hire and anyone who would like more information is asked to call Tracey Wilson on 01964 532919.

BEVERLEY: A drop-in session has been organised for people who want to quit smoking.

It will take place at Beverley Children's Centre in Coltman Avenue from 1.30pm to 2.30pm on Thursday.

Anyone who would like to attend does not need to book a place.

HULL: The Age UK charity shop in Spring Bank, city centre, is appealing for donations of white goods and furniture.

Items such as washing machines, fridges and beds are needed.

Donations can be taken to the charity shop during opening hours.

Alternatively, a free pick-up service is available by calling 01482 580735.

HULL: Dove House Hospice is continuing to appeal for acts to take part in the charity's first variety show to celebrate World Hospice Day.

The event will take place at Cottingham Civic Hall in Market Green, Cottingham, at 7.30pm on October 9.

The show will include performances from different acts and the charity is appealing for more to come forward.

Fundraising co-ordinator Karinda Jones said the charity was looking for dance groups, drama pieces and comedy acts.
