Flooding scheme extended in Pocklington
POCKINGTON: A scheme to prevent further flooding in the town is being extended.
Work to clear vital culverts to improve drainage in Pocklington will continue for another month.
Environment Agency contractors have already cleared 315 tons of gravel, silt and other rubbish from the underground channels.
An agency spokesman said: "It's turned out there is more in the culverts than estimated, so there will be another four weeks' work."
Pocklington Beck flows through manmade culverts for much of its length through the town, under homes, businesses and roads.
Following the June 2007 floods, the agency carried out a CCTV exploration of the channels to identify problem areas.
Water backing up in blocked culverts caused much of the disastrous flooding.
HULL: Plans to convert an empty warehouse in the city's former fruit market district have been submitted for approval.
The Humber Street building is being lined up as a multi-purpose event space capable of being used as a gallery, arts studio and rehearsal area.
The scheme is part of an attempt to breathe new life into empty buildings in the area.
