Immediate action flood warning issued for Bridlington

People in the coastal town of Bridlington have been urged to beware large waves and sea spray, as a flood warning has been put in place.

The Environment Agency says high tides and strong onshore winds have resulted in tidal surge. Consequently, flooding is expected between midday and 3pm, and again between midnight and 3am.

Flooding is expected on the north side of the dock area, with properties on Harbour Road and the Floral Pavilion particularly at risk.

The Environment Agency website urges people in the area to move themselves, their pets and valuables to a safe place, and turn off gas, electricity and water supplies if it is safe to do so.

They should also put flood protection equipment, such as sandbags, in place.

UPDATE 1310: The Environment Agency has advised people to "be careful and stay vigilant, as large waves and sea spray is likely to affect the area".

People should also keep up with weather forecasts and Flood Warnings on the Environment Agency website, This is Hull and East Riding was told.

UPDATE 1430: The Environment Agency Yorkshire has tweeted that the rain has now arrived across most of the region, and posted a photo from one of its patrols in Bridlington.

UPDATE 1530: The Environment Agency tweeted: "We're clearing trash screens in #Darlington today so that trees and branches don't block the river leading to floods" accompanied by a photo.
