WELFARE reforms could end up becoming as big an issue as the poll tax, according to city council leader Steve Brady.

He said: "We are going to be in for a very tough time.

"I believe we will see the effects of the bedroom tax and the changes to council tax being felt across the city and it will be comparable with the poll tax.

"There will definitely be an increase in homelessness and the challenges facing low-income households are going to be enormous.

"Many people will face the problem of paying their rent, paying their council tax and paying their heating bills when we all know they are going through the roof.

"It is not about the feckless who need to come into the real world as certain Government ministers would have us believe.

"It's going to have an impact in every street in the city. We have seen the number of people becoming unemployed because of all the shops and factories closing.

"All these people will be facing these problems through no fault of their own."

“Whilst the Poll tax was a conservative policy the coalition need to take responsibility for the three years in May that they have been in power.
If the Poor have it then the Coalition want to cut it, if your on working tax benefit your called a scrounger for getting it whilst working, if your disabled then they have cut it to you and pretend they care.
If your a Lib Dem Hull City Councillor then its not us but the Tories
Hull Lib dems talk about the Council cuts as if they are not part of the Lib Dem party, when it is they who have voted each time to prop up these people of the rich and and wealthy to keep what they have.”
