A VIOLENT, abusive drunk who beat up his ex-girlfriend and racially harassed a police officer has been jailed and served with an antisocial behaviour order (Asbo).

Shaun Thomas Sykes, 36, of Estcourt Street, east Hull, committed a string of offences across the city.

His crime sheet includes theft, assault, racially aggregated harassment, battery, urinating in public and being drunk and disorderly.

Sykes has now been jailed for 67 days for his latest crimes, including breach of a restraining order, battery and a series of thefts from shops.

He has also been given a three-year antisocial behaviour order.

PC Russ Moore, the city's antisocial behaviour officer for Humberside Police, said: "I've known him for ten years and he has always been a problem.

"He has always been nasty and violent.

"I remember him having a drugs problem and now this has transferred to a drink problem, which has made him worse."

Sykes will breach his Asbo if he is found to be drunk and disorderly, or drinks in public.

He is not banned from any one area because his crimes have been committed across the city.

Sykes could be jailed again if he breaches once released from prison in April.

PC Moore said: "If the antisocial legislation was not designed for him, I don't know who it was designed for. He is exactly the person who should have an Asbo."

Hull Magistrates' Court heard how Sykes threatened a police officer, saying he would "rip his head off", while being drunk and disorderly in October last year.

Sykes assaulted his ex-partner by throwing a bike at her outside the Pink Panther Resource Centre Care Home, in Holderness Road, east Hull.

He also assaulted a woman in the Asda store in Mount Pleasant in January this year.

In the past, Sykes has also been jailed for assaulting a police officer.

“poodledoodle2; I think the ratings speak for themself. Making comments like that will make people question your gene pool.

S**ty people (and his is a s**ty person by the sounds of it) are s**ty people and they can come from anywhere and from any background.”

“Once again, how on earth can someone have "...been a problem..." for at least 10 yrs?

The system or rehabilitation/punishment or whatever is clearly not working.

    Time for a cull.”

“"always been a problem?" Nah the guy HAS a problem. A big mental one. Never mind 67 days in prison, give the fruitcake and others like him, 67 years in an asylum. 67 days. I mean, you get more than that for pinching a pair of trainers. Do we have to wait till zombies like him kill some innocent person before properly removing them from our society?.”

“Good old Syksey, he's been in and out of jail more times then my right leg in the hokey kokey.

I can't complain though, only ever having had a tub of ice cream thrown at me which I'd asked nicely for him to remove from his jacket and put back in the freezer like a good boy.”
