Jewellery thief responsible for a string of raids

JEWELLERY thief Richard Calvert was responsible for a string of thefts from jewellery shops all over the north of England.

The thefts were almost identical, using distraction techniques to avoid detection.

For three months, he targeted shops from Northumbria to East Yorkshire.

January 13, last year – A £7,750 diamond ring stolen from a shop in Alnwick, Northumbria.

January 21, last year – The raid on Griffins in Bridlington. A £24,000 white gold ring was taken.

February 18, last year – A platinum diamond ring worth £28,500 stolen in York.

March 8, last year – A £16,000 white gold engagement ring stolen in Leeds.

March 13 – Two diamond rings, one worth £7,800, the other worth £5,700, stolen at a shop in Helmsley.
