Former Hull East MP John Prescott has said the 2003 Iraq war "cannot be justified".

The ex-deputy prime minister, who is now a Lord, originally said he backed the war because he believed in George Bush's blueprint for the peace.

John Prescott said he initially believed in George Bush's blueprint for peace.

He told BBC One's This Week programme he believed President Bush had a plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He has now said he thought the war was wrong but could not "just disown it".

"Two big mistakes of the last Labour government were the Iraq war and foundation hospitals. Prescott would get two cheers from me if he came out and said the latter was also a mistake. For the present government we can apparently afford to prosecute a multi-billion pound war in Afghanistan costing 430 of our young peoples lives but not provide basic support for unemployed young people.

I think you will find the invasion of Afghanistan was down to the last Labour Government as well, all Cameron is doing is trying to withdraw without leaving a complete mess, we should never have been there in the first place. Blair and Prescott should be tried as war criminals, lets also not forget Blair also made himself cosy with Jerry Adams, Martin McGuinness and Col Gaddafi, and then Browns Government allowed the Lockerbie bomber to walk free.”

“Shouldn't he have stood up to Blair and said this at the time instead of going along with a plan based solely on supposition. If I remember rightly Hans Blix - a UN investigator in Iraq - stated that there were NO weapons of mass destruction and if there had been Saddam had no rockets capable of delivering them more than four hundred miles. With this statement Prescott, now realising his popularity is on a downward spiral following his rejection as Police Commissioner and High Sheriff, is only trying to regain some lost ground.”

    “He believed George Bush.
How on earth anyone can trust his judgement after that statement is beyond me!”

“Its a good job the neo con tories were not in power when these events took place because they would have been stuck to that neo con Bush like glue, and we'd have been in even deeper than we are now! For people to suggest that we went to war because labour were in power is b/s! Yes they lied and decieved but its only what any of the other spineless goons would have done.”

“Prescott- do you have any idea how much damage you have done? Now what? You want to distance yourself from your own stupidity?
You went along with a war of aggression against a country which did not pose a threat to us and you did not even bother to do some proper research on the matter. Now 10 years after the fact you start backtracking?
WMD is a completely meaningless term, it was also the reason given for the war. No matter what piddling amounts of dangerous material Saddam had (next to nowt as it happens), he had no means of delivering them. A bullet is not very dangerous unless you have a gun to put it in.
As for Palestine and Israel- forget it, America backs Israel to the hilt; until the EU grows a pair and imposes sanctions on Israel they will carry on and oppress the indiginous population.
    You are a buffoon Prescott.”

“So Prescott "thought Bush had a blueprint for the peace"and "a plan for the Israeli/Palestinian conflict".If he really did think that then he really is the buffoon that some people say he is and I wasted two general election votes on him.

In order to bring down our former "man in Baghdad"we first had to help Bush and co.lay waste to the country did we? Nothing to do with helping the US steal millions of dollars of Iraqi oil then?
Anyone with half a brain saw through the WMD lies, without what Blix was saying.

Bush couldn't work out a plan about which shoe to put on first and should have spent his life on the banks of a swamp with his banjo.Any attempt by far better men than Bush to make Israel dismantle their illegal expansion and take any notice of numerous UN resolutions would be stopped in its tracks by the Jewish lobby.
Now after helping terrorists take over Libya and kill "our new friend"Gaddaffi we are helping more Islamic nuts in Syria.America has been arming terrorists, murder gangs and death squads all over the world for 60 years. Where they cant bomb "back to the stone age" they fund proxy wars and we should not be aiding and abetting them in their warmongering.”

    “Hahahaha.

This is what happens whe you allow ideology to take precedence over reality.

So, given that he how thinks that he was wrong, what is he going to do to amend things?

Hand back 10 years' worth of parliamentary income perhaps, having misled his constituents and the house of commons? Resign from the Lords?

    Or nothing.”

    “Vic, avoiding responsiblity as usual.

The dodgy dossier, was the one one drawn up by Campbell, which it turned out he had downloaded most of the info from the internet, taken from a 10 year old PHD thesis.”
