A JUNIOR event will be held for the first time at this year's Hessle Road pram race.

The pram race will be for children up to 11 years old and will be held at the Massey Playing Fields.

The event builds on the announcement that sponsorship has been secured for this year's race on July 14.

Safety equipment company Arco has pledged £9,000 to ensure the traditional event can be staged in the summer.

Organiser Kim Hepple said: "Arco has been a great help, with two of its staff being part of the planning committee.

"The carnival, on Massey field, will be bigger and better this year.

"As well fairground rides, charity stalls, local bands and dancers and various sports, there will also be a Junior Pram Race for the first time.

"They can push their prams with a doll or teddy in and we will have a few prams for children to use."

The route will be the same as last year, from Yorkshire Bank in Eton Street up to Ray- ners pub from noon to 1pm. The road will be closed from 11am.
