Hull-based telecoms firm KC could be allowed to offer packages of services to its customers for the first time.

Industry regulator Ofcom has begun a consultation about allowing KC to sell packages including broadband, landline and other services similar to those already offered by other communication providers.

BT was allowed to offer so-called bundles in September last year.

Ofcom say the move would give KC customers better value for money.

Under any changes, KC will be required to make the packages available to all residents and businesses in the Hull area.

Prices will also have to be set in a way that will not discourage other communications providers from offering their services to consumers in Hull should they wish to do so.

“KC is cheaper than BT, line rental for instance is £11 with KC and £13 with BT, KC's call charges are cheaper than BT.

    BUT

If you have a BT line you have choice to go with a number of providers that will even be cheaper than KC.

The HDM should start a campaign to bring other Broadband suppliers in but the won't

    WHY?

KC must spend a small fortune on advertising in the HDM such as sponsoring the Bounce Back feature, the HDM is in KC's pocket.”

“I have lived in B.T. areas, and K.C. is a lot cheaper, when I lived in Cumbria I paid £32 per quater plus V.A.T., that is £10.66 plus V.A.T. a month line rental only, NO free local calls, with K.C. I only pay £10.50 a month including V.A.T. line rental and all my local calls free, phone £10.50 Broadband £16.99, that is £27.49, the cheapest I could find in Cumbria was £29.99 per month

So do your sums, K.C. is cheaper than B.T. areas”

“Thickos from 'ull as usual!!! You will probably find that KC are unable to offer the lower prices that you all wish for as it would discourage others from entering the Hull market. Instead they charge what they do thanks to Ofcom so that others could come in and charge a lower price if they so wish. Fact is why would anyone want to come into Hull? Ok you might think the population of Hull is large but as it is a limited area it's not worth anyone coming in and investing monies for low/slow returns when they can do so where there are no boundaries such as the BT network. Be glad you have a local employer where you are as it's pretty desolate here and the internet service is not all that good here either. I've had various ISPs and all faulter/fail/overcharge or giv bad customer service. Back your local firms and economy or suffer your own fates and become a ghost city you 'ullites. Oh an by the way I have nothing to do with any of Hull's companies before Aaron starts crying to his mum that someone has said something he disagrees with! However I do have Hull to thank for a good higher education and grounding in life.”

“I was stuck on the old 500 tariff for years.I did not want to re-contract because I downloaded or I did. Instead I bought a 3 phone and with a £5 unlimited Internet add-on I use the sim in my 3G router and get broadband for a fiver a month. I get 300 FREE texts and 150mb for 90 days so I use it in my phone first then swap the sims out.Got my landline taken out and have saved hundreds in the years that I've done this. No KC for me thanks!”

“Are they going to bundle subscription tv too?

It is thanks to KC, and it's abortive KIT offering of a few years back, that the cable TV companies never bothered with Hull.

Worked out well - for KC, and Rupert Murdoch that is, both of whom have respective monopolies in the city - not so well for Hull consumers, obviously.”

“I got my letter from KC telling me I am on the old braodband package and will have to pay an extra £2.50 a month , or I could move to the new package but I would be on a new 12 month contract , what a con

I'm sick of KC , they don't have to be competitive at all they just charge whatever they like”
