Broadband users have been promised a faster connection as Kingston Communications (KC) today announces plans to inject £4million of investment into its networks.

The cash will be spent on upgrading its network to provide better broadband services to more people and businesses in the region.

KC has announced it will invest £2.8m in upgrading its local network infrastructure, with an additional £1m being pumped into bringing faster broadband to customers in East Yorkshire villages.

KC chief executive Kevin Walsh said: "Customers have told us they want faster, more reliable broadband, and we've delivered this by continually improving our services to meet their needs, regularly topping the broadband speed league tables as a result.

"The additional investment we've announced today will provide a platform for launching new, faster broadband services."

The announcement comes on the back of strong annual results for Kcom Group.

The results show the company has increased profit by a healthy 64 per cent, to £29.4m, compared with £17.9m in 2009.

EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation) has improved to £69.8m, which the group said was a result of lower operating costs, despite increased pension costs.

Kcom has also driven down debt to £116.8m, from £157.9m in the previous year.

Part of KC's focus for the next year will be to grow the business through expansion into nearby geographical locations, through network investment or KC's partnership with BT.

Bill Halbert, executive chairman said: "Today we are announcing a strong set of results, showing marked increases in profitability and cash generation and a substantial reduction in our overall debt.

"This has been achieved through a number of successful financial measures, our increased focus on profitable customer relationships and actions to exit low margin commoditised revenue streams."

“Mark East Hull -You dont get a drop in speed when you have Fibre to the home. It is a constant speed. Thats what KC are ploughing money into.

KC dont charge BT or any other ISP anymore in wholesale pricing than BT do. The fault for the lack of options is:

    1. Other ISP's have not made an agreement with KC
    2. Other ISP's have not laid their own cables.

For those who complain about lack of speed because KC's 8Mg service you get 2mg, BT offer upto 20Mg but some of their customers get less than 1mg. An example of this is in Tickton.”

“Thanks Mick R, Beverley. I used the map thing on the link & with the new adsl+2 router, my expected speed is 10.2meg where before it were 7.5. Never knew that before, cheers.”

“there is a page on the Karoo website that will tell you the best speed you can hope for, but it all down to the quality of the wiring in the ground and in your house at the end of the day

“@neemoo your probably talking about less than 0.1% of people who actually get anything like the 'up to' speeds that they pay for.

The problem is that if a company came into Hull and installed a new network it would cost them millions and the potential number of customers (even if they took the whole population of Hull from KC) they would get, wouldn't be worth the investment.”

“Despite numerous phone calls to KC tech people, I eventually got fed up of paying £20 monthly for 'upto 8 Mb' and constantly getting 1.4Mb at best on a good day.
Switched back to BT, got a good home hub for free, average download speed of 7Mb and a cheaper monthly subscription.
    Bye bye forever KC”

“Ok KC is bit expensive for what we get but, I cannot complain at their service and no matter the complaints they get, I never and I mean never, get any problems. Once I am connected, I remain connected. I run many gigs per month, always using and recording mates on net radio, youtube, uploading, downloading, msn and much more. It would be nice to have faster speeds and bit less to pay too but I sure wouldn't like to try another company if I were able (I trust in Karoo's service) and no way would a dongle from mobile networks be suitable for my vast usage. Have many mates over the world, and other parts of this country and all they do is loose connection or complain about their providers. Yes I'l stick with Karoo thanks lol. Oh and when I have rang them for this or that, have found them most efficient and helpful.”
