The cost of a KC Home broadband and phone bundle is to rise by £1.

Its Home broadband and phone line bundle costs are also going up by £1, to £30.99 per month.

Business and consumer director Gary Young said although prices were rising, the company was also offering more for its customers' money.

He said: "We're committed to giving our customers best value, which is why the small increases we're making to some of our prices are accompanied by extra free call minutes and bigger download allowances.

"The price of our most popular phone and broadband bundle and our Karoo broadband prices haven't changed since we introduced them five years ago, even though we've significantly increased the download allowances and speed during this time."

Although costs are going up, KC local customers will get an extra 30 free minutes of landline to mobile calls.

The monthly download allowance for its Home phone and broadband bundles is increasing from 33GB to 35GB.

Broadband-only customers will also see their costs go up by a pound.

But this rise will again be accompanied by download limit increases.

Mr Young said: "One of the reasons we're doing this is our costs have gone up.

"The cost of energy is going up and the cost of fuel has gone up.

"We've also reinvested quite significant sums in our network and our services."

The company also stressed its fixed call line package remained the cheapest in the country.

Mr Young said his business was focused on employing local people and developing faster internet speeds, including the Lightstream fibre-optic network.

KC hopes the upgrade will make its broadband 14 times quicker than average.

Mr Young said: "People can see that we're reinvesting, either in network services such as Lightstream or our services more generally.

"Our engineers are local and our call centre is local.

"We're probably one of the few companies in this business area who can say our employees are all our customers as well."

Prices will rise from April 1. Customers will be sent letters notifying them of the changes in the next few weeks.

“@staneasthull i can assure you I don't work for KC but I have worked in the telecoms industry on and off for the best part of the last 10 years, as an in***bant supplier KC are no worse than BT.
I'm not from Hull and having lived around the UK, I know KC are not the worst suppliers.

The issue with Hull is the lack of choice but that is not KC's fault, that lies at the doors of Talk Talk, Sky, Plusnet, et al.

@mograt No internet company base their prices solely on speed, you only pay for usage. Also all fixed line telecom companies offer broadband plus line rental. Get yourself on a bundle package and save a couple of quid each month.”

“We don't want extra minutes we want better value for money and a better and faster servce, with more competition in the area so we aren't obliged to pay extortionate charges for a second rate service...”

“I'm guessing that Tony Wilson is employed by kc or is in some way making money from the poor service we receive. All I'm hearing is when kc do this or that. What about the here and now. Just try ringing and asking for a reduction in your bill for lack of service. All thou get is this is the sapped it can run at but there are no guarantees this is what you'll get. They should do the top bosses pay scales under the same rules. You could be getting £40,000 a year but there are no guarantees so you'll be getting 10. They'd soon sorry things out then I'd links to bet that most of them don't live in the Hull area and are signed up to a superior service. Its time they rather put up or shut up and gave us the choice or are they afraid of a bit of competition.”

“I did a broadband speedcheck after getting fed up with my internet dropping out and found out I was not even getting 2MB. My area should have been around 4MB. When I did another check, I found out some areas are getting 8 MB. I tried ringing KC's customer services only to find I was FIFTEENTH in the queue so I ended up going in to town. My question to the "technical assistant" went like this;- How is it fair that I have to pay £22.41 a MONTH for 4MB in my area when there are others paying LESS for 8MB? The landline that I DON'T USE and have unplugged (because I'm sick of overseas cold callers) and I only use my mobile now anyway, is a minimum of £45 a quarter on KC Talk 1. So the way I look at it is, I'm paying about £34 a month for a 2-4MB broadband service when there are numerous packages that are a fraction of what we are FORCED to pay, as we don't have the choice. And KC do nothing, just keep creaming the money off us idiots. Why aren't there options to just have broadband without the landline? They are just gangsters and the sooner they lose that monopoly the better..”

“It really doesn't matter what IP you are with until KC sort out their telephone lines or install fibre optic throughout, Whoever you are with will still be using KC's lines.

The telephone network as it stands now is of a lower standard than BT's. Unless you live within 2Km of an exchange you'll have problems for the simple reason KC used 0.3mm copper cabling unlike BT's 0.5mm.”

“Karoo is absolute shoite. My connection is up & down like a fiddler's elbow for several hours per day, usually from 9am. The bandwidth used to download a 100mb file usually turns out to be 1gb.”

“KC are putting their prices up, but so have BT, Talk Talk and Sky recently.

Yes it is a pain not having choice but that is no fault of KC, the likes of Talk Talk and Sky only have agreements with BT to only use their lines. You can't get Sky or Talk Talk on a Virgin line either.

Price wise, KC are roughly the same price, if not slightly cheaper than BT. Talk Talk are cheap but they are cheap for a reason, just type into Google "Talk Talk complaints", they are always voted the worst company for customer service and satisfaction.
Sky offset the cost of their broadband with the costs of their TV packages, so they always look cheaper than they actually are.
Virgin are one of the most expensive suppliers, they're dearer than KC.

KC have improved their service in the last couple of years, their network will be an asset to the city of Hull when the fibre project gets completed.”
