Kingston Communications (KC) is warning customers not to give out their credit card details over the phone.

The warning comes after the company had complaints over a hoax caller claiming to be from its credit control department.

According to KC, the caller asked customers to pay an overdue bill or risk being cut off.

If the customers refuse to pay the hoaxer often does not hang up, leaving the line open to give the impression it has been cut off, the company said.

They then call back and ask the customer to pay again.

Richard Griffiths, head of customer sales and marketing at KC, said: "Kingston Communications' customers should be aware that we will never ask a customer to provide us with their credit card details over the telephone. We only accept payments from debit and credit cards via our secure, automated card payment line.

"If you receive a call from anyone claiming to be from KC asking you to provide these details over the telephone, you should end the call immediately and do not provide them with your credit card number or any security numbers under any circumstances."

Now Billy, my uncle is a nigerian chieftan and he's got £400,000,000 tied up that he needs transferring, fancy helping out? All I need is your bank account details...”

Makes one wonder where these conmen that are making the hoax calls are getting customers inofrmation from?”
