Karoo bans users for illegal downloads
People across the region are reportedly being cut off from the Internet for illegally downloading films and music.
Karoo has been terminating customers' Internet connections if they illegally download copy written material.
-

Karoo is believed to be the only Internet provider in the country to carry out this practice.
Other providers write to customers if they break the law.
Karoo is defending the move saying it is a "responsible approach" to protecting people from illegal activity.

“@Rob Raises an interesting point with the Latin quote "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?", translated "Who will guard the guards themselves?"
I know of one ex Karoo employee whom used to tip off a certain group of friends as to when their usage was been monitored.”

“i am suprised that anyone manages to download anything on karoo if they wanted to, It is really slow and our family is forever having connection problems. We hate the fact that we have no other option in hull for internet providers unless we choose a dongle dial up connection karoo have silly prices and silly useless offers and hate the face that we are forced to be with them”

“I am surprised anyone has the time or patience to wait for a film to download on Karoo as it is the worst and slowest ISP i have ever come accross, it's about time a proper ISP was given a chance to give a proper service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“I am one of those who have had their internet connection cut because i downloaded a film from utorrent . i agree that karoo are imposing a momopoly on the people of hull and that if another ISP came into Hull karoo would be finished and i also believe that they get away with extotion cause they know there is no one else who would provide some much needed competition which Karoo is terrified of . personally i would welcome Virgin or BT”

“I have just come back from attending the A.G.M. of KCOM and spent quite a while afterward talking to Kevin Walsh, one of the Executive Directors. He categorically denied that we have no competition for broadband in the Hull area. He said several times that other broadband service providers choose not to be in our area as they have looked into it and decided that they cannot make a profit. That may well be true but I do feel that I was not being told the whole story, especially when the Hull Dail Mail reported quite a while ago that KCOM charge other rervice providers too much to use their facilities.
I noticed in the booklets given out that there are about 65,000 private shareholders in KCOM and I expect that a lot of them are in the Hull area, like me. I felt that it was a shame that only about 70 people bothered to turn up. Obviously a lot of them will have been at work but an A.G.M. is just about the only opportunity a private shareholder has to exercise his right to speak and give his opinion on a Company's running.
Perhaps we get the broadband service provider we deserve.”
