Ken Wagstaff named Hull City's best player
TIGERS fans have voted Ken 'Waggy' Wagstaff their favourite Hull City player of all time.
Hundreds of fans visited the Mail's website to register their vote in our poll to name the greatest City player.
The poll was launched following the departure of Tigers hero Dean Windass earlier this month
Deano was second in the poll following his move to Oldham Athletic.
Mr Wagstaff said: "I'm glad the supporters remember me.
"They still say hello at games or in the pub.
"Hull has fantastic fans and I'm glad I entertained them.
"If you do your best and give it your all, the supporters will get behind you."
Waggy played for City from 1964 to 1975 and is still fondly remembered.
He polled 55 per cent of the votes, with Deano taking 16 per cent.
On hearing about his rating in the poll, Deano said: "If people like you, so be it; but if they don't, I'm not bothered.
"I've never been a big-headed person. Ian Ashbee used to take the mickey out of me, saying I wasn't a legend, and that people who fight wars are legends.
"I believe that, but legend is a different word in football and if someone wants to call me that, it's a nice way to be remembered."
Ninety-year-old Cyril Metcalf, who has been watching City for 80 years, voted for Waggy.
He said: "Waggy was a great player. He seemed to have so much time on the ball and could spot passes no one else could see."
Fans also paid tribute to Deano, who scored the goal that propelled the Tigers into the Premier League.
The Mail invited fans to e-mail their messages to Deano following news of his departure.
Seven-year-old fan Elliot Cross wrote: "I am so sorry you are leaving Hull City.
"You were an inspiration to me when I needed some encouragement, because I had just started in a team.
"You suggested I carry on trying, and that is what I have done, and I now have a place in the team."

“This whole thing is pathetic. Football, indeed all professional "sport" is just a business in which there is no element left to the slightest risk of chance. In other words; its a fix from start to finish.
Too much money is at stake to leave it to the mental retards that actually play the "game".
But the biggest idiots are those that pay good money to watch it. They have no excuse whatsoever.”

“2 great hull city sporting legends, waggy was a great finisher, and people still talk of him now,he was a joy to watch and always excited the fans when the ball came to him.but dont kid yourselves deano will still be talked about in 30 years, for obvious reasons,i still think deano is citys most infuential player,as his sale to aberdeen saved the club.but they have both been great servants to the club and for that i will always remember them both.”

“I too was priveledged to see WAGGY in his heyday and witnessed him score some cracking goals. None more so than the two he put past Gordan Banks in the 6th Round FA Cup tie in the 70's. I met Gordan Banks at a football dinner a few years ago and got to speak to him one to one. I asked if he remembered that particular game and he did. He said he thought Waggy and fellow strike partner Chillo were a terrific duo who he greatly admired. How the names tripped off the tongue in those days. Mckechnie, Banks, Devries, Wilkinson, Neill, Simpkin, Lord, Houghton, Chilton, Wagstaffe, Butler and sub Pearson. Thank You Waggy you inspired many young lads of my era. You and Chillo were such a formidable partnership even today you are remembered up and down the land. I agree with George of Hull Deano is a star of recent and I along with many others will always remember him for getting us into the Premiership this can never be taken away from him. Anyway well done lads”
