Kingston upon Hull swimming club holds annual presentation evening
KINGSTON upon Hull swimming club held their annual presentation evening over the weekend at Dene Park sports and social club.
This brought together swimmers from all eight squads to celebrate the club and the swimmers' achievements over 2011.
Achievement of the year for 2011: Rachael Williamson, 16, who qualified to swim for Great Britain at her second European junior championships 2011, winning bronze in the 800m freestyle and silver in the 400m.
National squad swimmer of the year: Dervla Curran, 13, who swam in three national finals for her age group.
Regional squad swimmer of the year: Eleanor Johnstone, 17, who showed steady improvement over 2011 in all strokes and is now producing a number of eye-catching performances.
The swimmer of the year award for Age One: Shannon Mcgahey, 12, who collected eight gold medals at the Yorkshire championships. Competing at the NER's she gained National qualifying times in two events. At the subsequent National Championships held at Ponds Forge Sheffield in July Shannon competed in the 800m freestyle and 200m butterfly as well as the 100m and 200m freestyle relays; reaching the final in the 200m relay. An outstanding year of achievements was capped off when Shannon was invited to train with the England Talent squad.
The swimmer of the year award for Age Two: Sam Bailey, 10, who attained Yorkshire times in all four strokes and across all distances, just missing out on a clean sweep of qualifying times by one event. In addition to success at county level Sam has also achieved three qualifying times for the North-East regional championships. Claimed bronze in the 50m Yorkshire backstroke.
The swimmer of the year award for Age Three: Ruby Willingham, nine, has made some huge improvements on all four stokes and over all distances throughout the year. She was one of only eight swimmers at the nine-year-old age group in the Yorkshire region to qualify for the 200m backstroke at the Yorkshire Championships. She also achieved two other Yorkshire times.
Swimmer of the year for the girls' Tadpole squad: Maisie Foster, nine, came through the free swim programme and has worked hard, progressing in Tadpoles and attending bridging sessions with age group three.
Swimmer of the year for the girls' Tadpole squad: Ben Massam, eight, who puts in 100 per cent and is always willing to try new things and is eager to learn.
Club squad swimmer: Rewa Marden, 12, always puts in 100 per cent, is a pleasure to coach and has settled in well to the club's Regional development squad.
Disability squad swimmer of the year: Natalie Moon, 17, competes in the disability swimming events in the S14 categories. These categories are for athletes with learning difficulties. Natalie has competed at the Yorkshire and North East Counties levels.
Coach of the year: Terry Offen who coaches the younger end of the club six times a week and was nominated for his commitment, enthusiasm and knowledge.
Volunteer of the year: Jenny Sleight for all her unseen work.
