Madonna does it, Uma Thurman is passionate about it and

Sarah Jessica Parker wouldn't be without it – knitting is in

fashion.

Now, two East Riding women are reaching out with their

needles to join knitters across the world in a global knitting

event.

Patricia Would and Kath Rial are organising the knitting day

in Hornsea, one of almost 700 events being held all over the

world on June 14.

World Wide Knit In Public was started in California in 2005

as a way of bringing knitters together.

Knitting has undergone a resurgence in recent years

following the “outing” of celebrity fans of traditional pastime

including Cameron Diaz, Kate Moss and Madonna.

Mrs Would said: “I've knitted on and off since I was a

little girl, although I've been doing it seriously since I

retired about five years ago.”

The two women are hoping knitters and crochet enthusiasts

will join them for an informal gathering in the gardens of

Hornsea's award-winning museum in Newbegin, from 10.30am to

4pm.

Participants are asked to bring along knitting or crochet

and a folding chair.

Mrs Would, who has created jumpers, cardigans, hats, gloves

and scarves as well as an array of baby clothes for her

six-month-old grandchild, said: “We are hoping people will

come, even if they haven't knitted before. I'm sure the more

experienced knitters will be happy to share tips and advice to

get people started.

“It's a great way to make friends. Kath and I have become

more adventurous since we started and we are there to support

each other if we get stuck on a pattern.”

“It is marvelous silly fun to knit with others you don't know. We don't have a free informal knitout anywhere that I know of. I am looking for a knitting machine for a novice machine knitter that is not expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also need the machine's price to be under 500.00. How do I list my business name in the directory of knitwear designers? Thank you for your assistance and for sharing this article to the knitting obsessed! Desiree'”
