Koniks in the snow
Our konik ponies are enjoying the snow this week as winter finally arrived to Blacktoft Sands nature reserve.
These ponies arrived in November to help create the ideal conditions for wintering and breeding birds by grazing different parts of the reserve . They quickly settled into their new surroundings and seem to be able to cope with all weather conditions that nature throws our way including high winds, flooding and now snow. â
They are related to the wild ponies that used to roam accross Europe so they are hardy animals being able to look after themselves in the wild and this recent winter weather just shows how relaxed they are in these conditions.

“My daughter's Shetlands have been rolling in the snow, they love it. They are so hot that steam pours off them ..... hardy little beggars, just like the Koniks”
