LITTER IS A PITY

“Why do people choose to chuck litter everywhere in the first place?
Is it because they are selfish morons?”

“Charleswelton, take your point however the Payback scheme is also about what local communities want them to do, so as in my case most of the residents wanted them to tackle litter in a certain area which they did, we also needed some environmental work doing which they did, the painting was suggested by council officers as it meant they saved getting a contractor in saving lots of money, Community Payback is at the behest of the community.”

“The yobs doing payback didn't put the litter there, particularly in a village situation, local people did so local people should tidy it up. Getting Pay back people to do make right what ordinary people have dont wrong isn't right. They should be helping with more worthwhile causes.”

“Most areas of Hull have regular Patchwalks done by wardens, PCSO, Housing Staff and residents, if there is a litter problem in a certain area then the council workers on the walk get a litter pick organised for that area, also i attended a crime and safety meeting whereby as residents we asked council staff responsible for Community Payback to get the offenders to litter pick certain areas that were suffering. We have also had payback doing painting, weeding and planting and removing graffiti, think as you live in East Riding you need to speak to your councillors.”

“Littering is one of the things I get quite disproportionately ****ed off about.
First offence £1000 fine plus 1000 hours litter picking
Second offence as first offence + 10 years imprisonment
Third offence Summary execution and body hung from nearest lamp-post as a warning to others”

“It's about pride of place, the councils can't do everything(and if they do it's usually done in half measures), if you want it doing you have to do these things yourself or organise a group to go litter picking. People trea places differently if they think people care about it, we have an annual spring clean in our village where residents come along and spend a day litter picking.”
