Large fire closes North Ferriby High Road

North Ferriby High Road was closed this morning after a large straw fire.

The blaze broke out last night in a field next to the primary school in Church Road.

Firefighters were called shortly before 9pm and worked throughout the night.

It is believed the fire, in a large 50m by 20m straw stack, was started deliberately.

Two engines were sent from Brough and one from Calvert Lane. Firefighters left shortly before 8am this morning.

No one was injured.

The High Road was closed between the B1231 Swanland Hill and Humberdale Drive.

Update (8.50am): The road has reopened.
