However, he was reluctant to reveal any details of a polygraph test carried out at their East Riding home last weekend.

Mr Coles, 69, said: "I can assure you Lyndon has been absolutely cleared of even being in Coltman Street, or anywhere near, on the night Shane George was murdered.

"He was asked about eight questions, including, obviously, the question, 'Did you kill Shane George?'

"The tests showed Lyndon's answers to be truthful."

Mr Coles said the second test was carried out on Wednesday by a company called Polygraph Security Services in London.

Mr Coles said: "Lyndon has been to a reputable professional with many years' experience."

Previously, Mr Coles was quoted in the Mail as saying the test would be performed at his home. Mr Coles also said the test, carried out on Sunday, would be filmed.

When the Mail asked about the results of the weekend test, Mr Coles said neither he or his son were willing to make any comment.

The second test was not filmed.

Mr Coles said the family were planning to put a number of serious allegations to Humberside Police.

He said: "We want to get our case to the Court of Appeal.

"Lyndon did not kill Shane George and I am sure we will prove that.

"I have always said this, and I will say it again, I want Humberside Police to arrest me for the allegations I am making.

"If that happens, we can get it all out in court and get this resolved once and for all."

Mr Coles said, now his son has been released, he would be taking a back-seat.

He said: "I have been acting on Lyndon's behalf all these years.

"I am pushing 70 and I need to be taking it a bit easier. But, of course, I will be supporting Lyndon and, if necessary, giving evidence."

Mr George's brother, Derek, 43, said he still believed Lyndon Coles, along with another man, Robert Bradley, also convicted and jailed, were responsible for the killing.

He said: "If you take enough tests, you will eventually pass it – it's like a driving test.

"Why is the family holding back information about the first test?"
