Links 'holes' a first as FootGolf comes to Bridlington
BRIDLINGTON will provide the stage for the country's first UK FootGolf Open Championships later this year.
Taking place at the Bridlington Links golf course in June, the two-day tournament will be a first for this fast-growing sport and the largest competition ever held.
A cross between golf and football, international players from across Europe will descend on the East Coast to compete against the best home-grown talent, aiming to be crowned UK Open Champion.
The sport is already played in various countries across the globe with the first tournaments being held in the Netherlands in 2009.

Competitions started in the UK in 2012 but have quickly grown, making England and the UK one of the biggest FootGolf playing nations.
A prize fund of £2,500 will be on offer, with £1,000 going to the overall winner, when East Yorkshire Events stages the tournament on the weekend of June 22 and 23.
Previous tournaments have attracted players from all over the UK, Hungary, Holland and Belgium, with enquiries already made from as far away as Italy, USA and Argentina for this event.
Mike O'Connor, UK FootGolf President and event organiser, said: "We were planning to have an international competition at one of the UK courses, so when East Yorkshire Events contacted us about holding a major competition here I jumped at the chance.
"I think it's great for local business and tourism to hold an event like this here, bringing people from across the country and around the world to Bridlington, that otherwise would probably never visit."
Kieran Lawry, from East Yorkshire Events, added: "We are delighted that after a lot of negotiating we are bringing yet another world class event to Bridlington."
Players of all abilities are invited to take part and entry is £25 per person, which covers playing and also includes entry into the reception party at the Links.
