Lorry driver admits causing Hull Uni worker's death in Jock's Lodge crash
A LORRY driver has admitted causing the death of a women who was waiting in her car at a set of traffic lights.
Julie Watson, 41, of North Ferriby, died when her car was crushed between the lorry and another car at the junction of the A164 and the A1079, known as Jock's Lodge, close to Beverley.
Robert William Bulmer, 57, appeared before Hull Crown Court last week and pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving on May 23 last year.
However, he denied the charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Prosecutor Mark McKone told Hull Crown Court the guilty plea could not be accepted by the Crown.
Bulmer, of Malton, North Yorkshire, will stand trial, accused of the more serious offence, in early May.
Judge Michael Mettyear, the honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, told Bulmer: "I am going to direct the trial in this case will take place before a jury in May. You must attend for your trial. If you do not, you are committing an offence and it means the case might be heard in your absence. Between now and that date you can have bail as before."
An inquest into the accident was postponed due to the charges brought against Mr Bulmer.
Mrs Watson had made it known she wanted her organs donated in the event of her death.
Her husband John has now been told Julie's organs have been used to save the lives of two men and two women.
One man received a kidney, the other a liver.
Mr Watson said: "Julie will never be forgotten and will always be loved.
"I have received confirmation that four grateful organ recipients are progressing well through Julie's organ donation."
Mrs Watson was the director of membership services and human resources at the University Of Hull's Students' Union.
She enjoyed raising money for charity, completing several marathons.
She and her husband were also planning to adopt a child.
