TOUCHING messages dedicated to loved ones will remain at a hospice forever.

The little purple hearts will be collected in a box, which will then be buried in the grounds of the hospice – leaving a lasting mark of your kindness.

Mail readers are invited to write a message on a heart and send it with a suggested donation of £25 for the Gift From The Heart appeal.

Love You 2 Appeal manager Pauline Speed said: "We've had some very moving messages dedicated to loved ones who have passed away at the hospice.

"But people who just want to support us have written messages about the appeal or about themselves.

"When we have collected all the hearts, we will put them inside a box which will be buried under the foundations of the hospice."

Organisers have no specific amount they hope to raise from the Christmas appeal, but about £3,000 has already been collected.

Here are just some of the messages:

With the greatest admiration and TLC I know you offer to those who are in need.

For everyone's loved one – always remembered as sweet are the memories that never fade.

Carry on the good work – best wishes for the future.

Supporting all the good work you do and in loving memory of my mother.

Thank you for your loving care – Happy Christmas.

You can feel the love and care as soon as you enter the hospice.

The Love You 2 Appeal was launched to help fund the revamp and extension of the hospice's Chamberlain Road site.

Ms Speed said: "The shell of the building is now complete, so now our efforts our focused on fitting it out.

"We want that to be completed by autumn next year, so we have a lot to do.

"We're in our final year of fundraising now and have another £1.5m to go."

She said the appeal has been going for two years now, but people still need to support it as much as they can.

Ms Speed said: "We know not everyone can afford to come to events or give a big donation.

"But at Christmas people do think of charities and perhaps loved ones they have lost.

"This is a nice way for people to give what they can and dedicate their donation to someone as well."

To donate to the Gift From The Heart appeal, fill out the form in today's Mail and post it along with a cheque, made payable to the Love You 2 Appeal, to Pauline Speed, Dove House Hospice, Chamberlain Road, Hull, HU8 8DH. Cash donations can be hand-delivered to the hospice.
