Dancing On Ice star Luke donated them to the Lord Mayor, Councillor Danny Brown, to raise money for his charities.

The signed gloves will go to the highest bidder, with the money raised going to the Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal Fund, which this year supports Age UK (Hull), Case and Hull and East Riding Institute for the Blind.

Cllr Brown said: "As soon as it went live, we had a bid for £35.

"It is a relief to get the first bid submitted. There's always that worry there won't be any interest at all.

"It's something to start with anyway."

Cllr Brown hopes the interest will build as the deadline approaches on Friday, March 29.

He said: "I would like to think we would raise at least a couple of hundred quid from the gloves.

"Perhaps Luke's success on Dancing On Ice will spark more interest.

"Once we get a few bids, hopefully, it will spark more interest and there could be some competition.

"Maybe a company will bid for them or perhaps Assem Allam will put in a bid."

Cllr Brown has praised Luke for his generosity and his role as an ambassador for the city.

He said: "I am delighted Luke has donated the gloves.

"He has done so well and he is always trying to plug the city.

"After the Olympics, he raised Hull's profile so much.

"Boxing is a subject that is close to my heart and I am grateful to Luke for donating his gloves so we can raise money for the three local charities I have chosen to support this year.

"All of these charities provide much-needed services in the city, providing help and opportunity to residents."

The winner of the auction will also be invited to join Cllr Brown for afternoon tea to receive the signed gloves.

About £20,000 has already been raised this year for the Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal Fund.
