The sporting pin-up wore a pink shirt and black tie as he showed off solo foot work and partner choreography with Jenna Smith.

She said it was a "challenging week" for Luke who had struggled to keep up with more advanced contestants on the ITV1 show.

Viewers were left open-mouthed as judge Jason Gardiner poured praise on the gold medallist and called the performance "beautiful."

He told Luke: "What I loved about this piece was it was so wholesome and for the first time you performed very genuinely, I thought, and you were beautiful with your partner."

Judge Ashley Roberts said he needed to find a "little bit of balance" between the softness and strength of his lines.

But she praised the boxer and told him: "It is the little things and you had amazing moments out there that were authentic and you were connected. It was beautiful.

"It's exciting to see that because I didn't know if that would come out of you and it is. I'm so excited to see you out there looking like you're enjoying what you're doing."

Luke said it was the first time he had to skate to a slow song. He said he was attempting to be "romantic" and clashed with Jenna in training but it went well on the night.

Robert Cousins gave him a score of 6.5 out of 10 and said: "So far, you are the perfect leveller, solo work, pair work, absolutely on a par with each other. Congratulations."

He received a score of 23.5 and professional skater Christopher Dean said it was a "genuine performance", while Jane Torvill said: "That was brilliant, I'm really pleased that everyone has seen you can skate and you can perform."

Karen Barber said: "That smile could melt anybody's heart. For me, the performance was broken up well, it was a partnership then we had the solo section. It just flowed really well and you are improving every week."

Luke's fiancée Lynsey Kraanen was moved by the romantic routine and tweeted: "Well, Luke melts my heart every day, he is one true gentleman."
