MP Graham Stuart describes Roos plan as 'wind farm too far'
The latest plans for a nine-turbine development in Holderness is 'one wind farm too far', according to a local MP.
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart has backed residents in their fight against Renewable Energy Systems (RES) to build turbines at Roos.
A public inquiry into the development began this week at County Hall in Beverley.
East Riding Council's planning committee had thrown out the application, due to the visual impact, the effect on the character of the rural area and the cumulative impact.
Mr Stuart said: "The people of East Yorkshire have a realistic attitude and we are more than happy to do our bit for the country's energy needs.
"Residents in Holderness have already lived with major disruption with the Easington gas works and gas storage on the coast.
"We are extremely accommodating, so it makes us all the more upset when their voices are ignored.
"The residents have made it clear this is one wind farm too far.
"The people of Roos and the surrounding area are going to be subject to an overwhelming presence of wind turbines.
"We have all representatives in the community, from me as the MP to parish councils and residents, all opposing this development."
RES insists there needs to be consistency as other similar developments have been successful on appeal.
Earlier this week, Patrick Robinson, for RES, told the inquiry the arguments the council had put forward in previous planning appeals have uniformly failed to find favour.
But the council has argued cumulative impact is a major concern and the East Riding had more than met its green energy targets.
The inquiry will last six days. There will be no sitting on Monday and site visits will take place next Tuesday.
The public will get the chance to speak on Tuesday with a meeting at Roos Memorial Hall at 5pm.
The inquiry will conclude on Wednesday with closing submissions.

“Speak to the accountants at Croda and ask them how much of a waste of money the wind turbine has been. The return on investment is 3 times quicker then expected and they want to build another one.
Wind power isn't the answer to the UK's future energy needs but it's part of the solution.”

“Good point Charles - it's really all about property values again isn't it? (everything is really - all other augments are smokescreens). Isn't the windmill on the Croda site on Clough Road, not the old Seatons oil mill. Talking of oil mills Hull had loads of seed crushing and vegetable oil processing companies at one time, (I remember Barker's) where's all that gone? Europe again??”

“Simon, Anlaby
Yup that's about it. The rich bods of Westwood Road don't want to see their expensive horizon peppered with windmills. That might lower their property values; Oh yes.
Now it's bad enough they can see that damn thing on Seaton's site without the threat of more damn giants they have to charge against. Old Rosicante won't go anymore and Sancho Panza is on disability living allowance.”

“Totally agree Spiked. Leave Roos alone, no more building in the countryside and these daft wind "farms" (what a ponsy middle class pointless expression that is) are a blot on the landscape.
There is only one real solution - nuclear power.
However another option would be to cut the population over say 50 years - less people = less power + less pollution + more space to breathe, park and live, but that's too much like common sense and against the leftie green lobby and other nutters who have gained power over the last 30 odd years so hey ho back we go to the stone age...”

“Graham Stuart is right. This winter has proved what a complete waste of money wind farms are. They are totally unreliable as you cannot rely on the UK weather. Let's build some coal fired power stations before it is too late. We have listened to the Lefty Green Lobby too long and look where it has got this country.”
