ONE of the UK's leading food processing companies has called upon the full range of expertise available at Blackrow Engineering for a major contract centred on production lines at two of its key manufacturing facilities.

The seven-figure contract will see Grimsby-based Blackrow design, manufacture and install an entire conveying system for the processing and packaging of 10,000 loaves per hour, plus the accompanying control and automation system.

Each of the company's technical disciplines will feature in the project – with sheet metal and fabrication, precision engineering, laser cutting and electrical and software engineering teams all involved from conception to delivery.

Construction and testing of the two lines will also be completed at Blackrow's 100,000 sq ft workshops on South Humberside Industrial Estate, as director Chris Marfleet explained.

"We'll be running a four-hour factory acceptance test around May time, prior to installation at each of the two sites by a 20-strong Blackrow team in June or July," said Mr Marfleet.

"One of the reasons we won the contract – along with our ability to handle the project on a turnkey basis and provide full running and pre-delivery inspection – were the facilities we have here.

"The client was amazed at the size and scope of our workshops, and the potential they offer, especially when coupled with the breadth and depth of expertise embodied in our workforce.

"On completion of these first two projects, there's a possibility we'll be asked to carry out similar projects at four other plants operated by this company, who have already told us we have a fantastic opportunity to become one of their key suppliers. We've been trying to work with this particular client for a number of years, so we're delighted to have been chosen for this first project, particularly when we faced very strong competition.
