with breast cancer last October," wrote Bill. "Although she has had her ups and downs she has battled the illness with a smile on her face, with the help of my parents and her daughters and, of course, her loving brothers (all five of us).

"My father is battling prostate cancer and has had a heart bypass recently, so seeing this happen for Angela would be a big lift for all the family.

"Angela has finished her treatment and her hair is just starting to grow back – I think a makeover would put a massive smile back on her face."

Angela, of east Hull, said: "My family have all been such a great support to me, they have really looked after me.

"This is such a surprise – and to have the opportunity for a makeover is nice because you do worry about your appearance."

Angela, who works at Debenhams in the home department, had just been back to visit colleagues to see about returning to work for a couple of days a week, following her illness.

"Work has been absolutely marvellous," said Angela.

She thought her makeover would be a brilliant boost in readiness to face her public again.

"I've just been back to the hospital and everything seems to be going OK," said Angela, who is mum to Vicky, 25, and Lizzy, 19.

"My mum and dad have been absolutely super – Dad has taken me to hospital appointments and back.

"It's nice to see some light at the end of the tunnel."

Angela was treated to some new clothes by Outfit, Kingston Retail Park, Hull, and had her hair and makeup done by Colour Lounge in Carr Lane, Hull.

Angela explained to Colour Lounge staff that she had just finished her cancer treatment and that her hair was only just growing back.

They were able to give her short locks, which were growing back nicely, a conditioning treatment, and tidied up the style around her ears. Angela also enjoyed a lovely scalp massage.

Sales assistant at Outfit Jeanette McConnell said: "Angela seemed to know what she wanted – she wasn't looking for anything too dressy, she wanted something more everyday that could be dressed up if she was going out for tea, for example.

"She went for a lovely chiffon dress which she teamed with some really thick black opaque tights and shoe boots – which she loved.

"Angela also got a nice bit of jewellery including a necklace and a nice bag which went with her dress.

"She did very well with all her choices which came in under the £100 mark."

As the Colour Lounge team were limited with what they could do with Angela's hair, they set to with a manicure, applying a lovely bright Tropix shade to her nails in a long-lasting Shellac finish.

For her face, Angela first had a neutral base applied and subtle purples were used around her eyes, completing her new look with a high-gloss lip colour.

Angela said: "Everyone was absolutely lovely. I was a little anxious at first but I soon got over it.

"The girls at Outfit were great and didn't rush me at all, I loved trying on all the clothes and I picked a really nice dress, tights and shoe boots.

"At Colour Lounge they were lovely too, they did my nails and my eyebrows.

"I can't thank everyone enough for the day – and I am definitely glad Bill put me forward for it."
