A man accused of attempting to snatch a five-year-old boy from his mother at Hull Fair has been refused bail.

Daniel Banasik, 28, allegedly tried to grab the child from his mother's grip during a family outing to the attraction.

It is alleged the would-be abduction happened shortly after 8pm on Friday, October 12, moments after the mother's partner had left the pair to visit a nearby stall to buy him sweets.

Prosecutor Debbie Sanders told Hull Magistrates' Court yesterday how the Crown believes the incident was witnessed by other fair-goers.

Michael Robinson, defending, said his client had entered a not-guilty plea at the first hearing before a district judge last week.

He said: "He is a man of good character. In due course the evidence will be tested."

Mr Banasik was refused bail and will appear before magistrates again on Monday, November 19.
