Mr Mattocks, 38, of Palace Avenue, Bridlington, has been released on bail and will appear in court again next month.

The mayor has praised the police for not giving up on the search for the civic chain.

An off-duty police officer had alerted police after a woman tried to sell the items at a pawn shop in Bridlington.
