Masked cyclist stole jewellery from Hessle Road shop

A masked man on a bike stole from a shop in Hessle Road, west Hull, in front of shoppers.

The man, wearing a balaclava, cycled up to the front of Cash Express and smashed a window with a tool before grabbing three trays of jewellery from the window display and stuffing them in a sports bag.

A member of the public stopped the suspect after he heard staff in the store shouting and the thief fell off his bicycle.

He climbed back on his bike and cycled off down Rosamond Street, through the Sefton Street area and on to St George's playing fields.

Two of the trays of jewellery were recovered but one remains missing. The tray had nine rings on it described as blue and white stone gold rings, worth between £400 and £700.

The suspect is about 5ft 5in and of medium build. He had a plain black, waist-length jacket on with black trousers and was riding a black mountain bike. He is described as speaking with a European accent.

The witness and anyone else with information about the offence which took place on Saturday at around 5pm is asked to contact Humberside Police on 101.
