LAST week marked 100 days since I took office as your police and crime commissioner, and what a busy period it has been, a whirlwind of an experience.

Every week I meet more of our dedicated police officers and staff on both banks of the Humber, and I am very proud of the job they do.

  1. Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Grove

We need to work hard on our plans in the coming years to make sure they have what they need, so they can do what they joined the police for in the first place, catch criminals, deter crime and keep our communities safe.

I have just published the budget for Humberside Police for the coming year. I am delighted to confirm that you will pay exactly the same for your police as you did last year. At a time when people are finding the recession a tough challenge, the last thing I wanted to do was turn to you, the taxpayer for more money. Instead, I am looking to find more efficient ways of working, and exploring ways of working with other public organisations so we can work smarter, including how we can share buildings, fuel and other resources to give better value for money so we can protect our frontline police.

By far the biggest piece of work has been to produce our Police and Crime Plan, I say "our" plan because it brings together ideas from the public and those we work with in community safety. It sets out my priorities for the police, and my vision for reducing crime over the next few years.

I hope you'll find it ambitious and challenging. I want to secure and continue the great work which has already gone into our police force over the last few years, such as the further development of neighbourhood policing teams, and look for new ways to involve the community to cut crime.

I want to see three main outcomes: reducing crime; protecting the public and improving safety; and improving the quality of service for victims.

Over the next five years, we must make our communities safer. It's not just about the police catching criminals, it's about getting to the causes of crime and stopping people turning to criminal activity in the first place, showing our young people the right path to take. It's about protecting our communities from the most dangerous and prolific offenders, and for the most part we know who and where they are. Above all, it's about reducing the number of victims of crime. That will be the true measure of our success, but we can only do it if we all work together, and I look forward to seeing more examples of how this is happening as I visit our communities every week.

“What a frightful no-nothing, overpaid, over-promoted poseur Humberside's adored(?) and adorable(?) PCC is! Oh dear, oh dear, why did we elect Matty, and why was his chum Robbo 'put-in' with nary a vote nor a competitive application system?”

    “@toby1956
I'm well aware that accidents need to be investigated, but this was a simple, single vehicle crash with no serious injuries, and at a time of day when there are unlikely to be any witnesses other than the occupants.
It should not be taking 5 HOURS to take a few photos and make a few measurements.

At the time I witnessed the scene (around 9:40), the crashed vehicle had been moved, no investigation work was being carried out on the carriageway, and the only remaining obstructions were the two police vans blocking the inside lane.”

“Youth Services are also going - that decision is directly as a result of the PCC, who presumably does not see the point of engaging young people - possibly a chance to change our next generation of potential criminals? In Hull they go, in NE Lincs they go with a bit of private provision 'bought in'. The Youth Service is dead. Redundancies start 31 March.

The more policies I read, the less I believe the PCC or deputy understand anything at all about crime priorities or policing. Clueless, the pair of them.”

You're right about many staff been in the force for an easy time & wage, the policies within the HR system are worthless, managers don't deal with problems such as competency or attendance at all.
There is though some very hard working officers and staff within the force who work damn hard, I just wish the people who can deal with the issues would listen and take action.
Unfortunately these hard working people are the ones who are going to end up leaving either voluntary or forced.
Civilianisation of roles are a good idea but only in certain areas, there are some very specialist civilian roles which require years of training and ongoing training and what's the point if having a sworn officer sat in an office doing these jobs not arresting people.”

“Fox ache- maybe just maybe they were doing a crash investigation which takes time, especially in there is a death or serious injury.

I would like Mr Grove to weed out all those officers and support staff who are the sick lame and lazy and play the system to get maximum wage with maximum time off on sick, then ask for backroom jobs due to 'sick'. Whilst some are genuine there are more that are not, get rid and recruit hardworkers, that includes Sergeants and Inspectors. Also please put those officers who have been hiding in those backroom jobs for years back on shift to tackle crime, I mean those hiding not those who do a good job.
The force has civilianised many things under the current Chief Constable but he has seen the light and is about to leave. I do not think those mentioned above will be dealt with in a hurry as too many in HR have no balls and no one big enough to say you have had enough chances get out.
I saw too many officers who should not be carrying the uniform, chocolate fireguards!!! comes to mind.
My wish would be that Mr Grove shows the people of the region and the Police Officers and support staff he means business or is that just pie in the sky thinking.”

    “Infinitum
Nothing will change unless you're unfortunate enough to be a victim of crime, Humberside Police are losing not just staff but whole departments thanks to Mr Grove.
In a few weeks there won't be one person who will be able to check a fingerprint within Humberside and the nearest place will be in Wakefield!
A lot of services are been shared across the Yorkshire & The Humber Region which is fine in the right areas but Mr Grove is been held to ransom by the powers that be, Humberside may have their faults as a force but compared to the other Yorkshire forces they get the best results with the least staff and at the best value for money.
A department going through the collaboration process now has actually ended up with additional managers and supervisors as they've had to take up West Yorkshire Police's structure!
The people of the Humberside Police area are going to end up paying for staff and buildings which they'll never see!
And once all this has been signed off in a few weeks it'll be far too late to turn back!”

The hypocrisy and slime almost makes me want to vomit, you've already turned to the taxpayer Grove(l) for another fat bloated salary! And for what excactly?”
