McEwan: Stingrays must produce a repeat performance
ASSISTANT coach Bobby McEwan says Hull Stingrays have everything to play for after holding big-spending Sheffield Steelers 2-2 in the first leg of the Elite League play-offs at Hull Arena.
In front of a vociferous crowd, Stingrays fell behind twice against a team that finished five places and 48 points ahead of them in the regular-season standings.
Steelers went ahead on the half-hour mark through Jon Phillips, but Dominic Osman equalised just before the second break. Neil Clark restored the visitors' lead 10 minutes from time, but Derek Campbell ensured the draw with a goal - also on the powerplay - two minutes later.
The sides meet again in a sold-out iceSheffield second-leg battle on Sunday night for a place in next weekend's semi-finals.

McEwan said: "We asked the guys to give us a chance for the second leg. Sheffield are a very, very good team and we battled hard for 60 minutes and gave it everything. We felt we dominated, and out-played the second-best team in the country, but we have to start again and do the same again on Sunday."

“This site really is a magnificent black at the weekend isn't it? Pity as that is when most of the sport happens ...
Anyway, as there is no story about it as yet, I thought I would use this one from yesterday to congratulate the Stingrays on beating the Steelers 5-2 tonight and making it to the finals weekend for the first time.
Well done lads!!”

“Bit of hyperbole from Bobby ... no way did the 'Rays dominate or outplay the Steelers. It was a great game of hockey between two teams that were equally matched on the the night. You certainly couldn't have picked out which team finished 2nd and which finished 7th on the strength of it.
More of the same tomorrow night, please, and you might just have a chance of making the finals weekend.”
