Rural thieves hoping to cash in on soaring scrap values are now stealing anything metal, including gates.

Humberside Police say thieves are targeting unattended property that is often left insecure in East Yorkshire farmyards and outbuildings. Thieves are taking anything that can be melted down.

Recently there have been thefts of fork-lift tines left in fold yards, metal field gates, machinery parts and jewellery taken from insecure farm houses.

Officers in Driffield are urging farm and land owners to consider keeping a record of serial number, chassis and model numbers of machines and painting or etching their name and postcode on detachable or personal property.

“Course it wont stop on 3rd Dec, the thieving pie-key scum bags who nick it have their own network of scrap dealers who will take anything for cash, no questions asked.”

“When the thieving scum are caught their hands should be melted down! Wonder if when the rules change at scrapyards on 3rd December it will stop this but doubt it.”
