I REFER to the article in the Mail (March 11) regarding the "Need to pump in cash to stop the nasty niffs".

I applaud Councillor Dominic Peacock's efforts to try to resolve the situation with Yorkshire Water.

The councillor states that "Yorkshire Water have been carrying out scientific tests" down at Beverley's sewage works.

There is no great mystery here and it doesn't take the brains of an archbishop to work out that the smell is that which fills babies' nappies and that which the majority of politicians are full of.

Yorkshire Water spokesman Matt Thompson states that generally the odours are worse on hot days. Well, who would have thought it?

It's high time that Yorkshire Water, flushed with success at how much money they ease out of our collective pockets, spent some it on resolving the issue in order to give the hard-pressed citizens of Beverley a bit of relief.

They've suffered for long enough.

Terry Cavender,

Molescroft, Beverley.
