Millions in funding to help grow Humberside economy

BUSINESSES are invited to find out how they can tap into a multi-million-pound funding pot to help grow the economy and create jobs.

The LEP's £30m Growing The Humber programme is designed to drive forward growth plans and build on the Humber's position as the UK's energy estuary.

The £30m windfall is being funded by the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) and is expected to create 1,500 sustainable jobs and 1,450 indirect jobs, while attracting at least £125m of further funding from the private sector.

"We can help businesses present their projects in a way that will maximise their chances of gaining funding and ultimately lead to creating jobs here."

The cash was secured following a bid submitted by the LEP and North East Lincolnshire Council, with support from business leaders and the other local authorities in the Humber.

The programme will be launched next week by The Minister of State for Business & Enterprise, the MP Michael Fallon.

Lord Haskins said: "Securing an RGF grant is a reminder of what can be achieved when businesses and local authorities come together across the Humber."

A third of the cash has been earmarked to support growth of the offshore wind and renewable energy supply chain on the South Bank.

The aim is to build on the Green Port Hull investment and enable businesses to access a similar level of support already available through RGF cash in Hull and East Yorkshire.

The remaining £20m is available for businesses of all sizes from both banks of the Humber.

It is designed to help firms drive ahead with their expansion plans while create sustainable jobs.

The Humber LEP will work with local partners to give businesses support to grow and make grants available for business investments, such as improvements to property or purchasing new plant machinery, research and development and training.

The fund will be launched on Friday, February 8, at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.

The deadline for companies wishing to register their interest in a grant is March 15.
