"The exhibition really shows the skills of the area. They are very talented."
The exhibition is now in its third year.
"It is a beautiful environment," said Mr Helyard.
"It has been very popular and well attended in the past."
Mr Helyard, who has exhibited in London, has more than 55 people signed up to his classes, which take place during the day in the town.
Mervyn King, of the minster, who also attends the art classes, said: "Beverley Minster was approached to see if it would feasible to exhibit more than 150 pictures and Jeremy Fletcher, the vicar, and the Church Council were delighted to offer the minster as a venue."
The free exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm, except on Sundays when it is open from noon to 4pm.
