Mobile phone mast plans rejected
Plans for a 50ft high mobile phone mast in east Hull have been rejected by city councillors.
The proposal by mobile phone firm O2 was earmarked for a site on Holderness Road near Drayton Close.
But the scheme attracted huge numbers of objections from residents as well as staff and pupils at nearby Thanet Primary School.
At this afternoon's planning committee, councillors voted to refuse permission for the mast after claiming it would harm the local amenity and pose a potential road hazard through two equipment cabinets being proposed next to the roadside.
Councillor John Hewitt said the site was simply in the wrong place because it was in the middle of a heavily-populated area and within a few hundred yards of two schools.

“Apparently the mast would not function efficiently enough as it would be in the shadow of BP's cooling towers and any radiation may affect the locals banjo playing skills learnt from birth on their mothers/fathers/uncles/sisters/brothers/cousins laps. Thorn Boy would also do well to realise land is much more valuable and therefore expensive in West Hull and he should leave a space after a full point.”

“Everybody wants a phone but nobody wants the masts. The answer is actually quite obvious - downgrade the whole system to lower frequency radiation and scrap access to the internet, multimedia messages and other stuff which needs the bandwidth. Then safer radio waves could be used instead of the microwave radiation which is emitted by these masts and is effectively frying us all very slowly.
The other issue with masts is of course the planning process. Of course councillors reject unpopular plans (for once they are being democratic) however we all know as far as masts are concerned there is a legal loophole which allows the phone companies to bypass the council and get government permission to erect them where they want. And do you think some anonymous pen-pusher down south gives a stuff about putting phone masts up in Hull (that little fishing village north of Grimsby), so I bet £10 that permission will be granted very shortly and the council over-ruled - watch this space HDM, you can expose another farce in this "democracy".”

“And they can forget about putting it in Hornsea,,our Mayor Clr. Miller doesn't want council flats let alone this mast in our sea side town. We are lucky at having a decent Mayor who will stand up for us against the Bullying East Riding Council”

“Why would they even consider putting a mast up in populated area's with the radiation it gives off.It is about time some of these things were put up in West Hull. There is plenty of land to put things like that there.”
