Morgan not fazed by injury
SHE may have dislocated her left knee twice during 2009, but netball sensation Claire Morgan still looks back with fond memories on what proved to be her breakthrough year in the sport.
The memories of the sheer agony she experienced when twice feeling her knee buckle on the court during a game are still very raw with the 18-year-old, who is on crutches unable to train at the present time.

She is set for reconstruction surgery at the end of this month and is likely to be out of action for nine months, with a return to top level competition in September the aim.
In February last year the Hymers College Sixth Form student experienced the first of her two dislocations and was out for six months.
However, the success she earned on her return that time around has filled the youngster with the hunger to come back once more and work her way to achieving her dream of competing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.
Morgan had just four weeks to get herself fit, sharp and ready for trials with the Scotland under-19s squad and her dedication as a goal shooter saw her impress and see off 200 hopefuls to make the team.
"I was out of my comfort zone at the Scotland trials but my knee coped really well with all the fitness work and matches," said the Beverley resident, whose mother and extended family are Scottish.
"I produced the best netball I have ever played and in the afternoon matches I played as goal shooter and scored 27 our of 29 shots, which was 96 per cent accuracy.
"I set myself high standards but I was over the moon with how I played."
The Scotland coaches have assured Morgan that she still features very strongly in their plans, despite her latest injury set back forcing the teenager to pull out of the squad for the European Championships in March.
She added: "Even though I have got injured I am still in contact with the Scotland team and will go down in March to help with the stats for the team.
"The coach has also sent me a really nice email and told me not to give up and told me that they have seen something in me and because I am young I should not rush my comeback.
"I have also been asked to go back in September to try out for the under-21s. I was only 17 when I got into the under-19s and now I will be trying out for the under-21s when I am 18.
"I am confident I can be at my best for it just like I was the first time I came back, but they have said if I do not get into the under-21s I can then try out again for the under-19s after this.
"My big aim is to play for Scotland's senior side in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. We are all training for that event in the Scotland set up as they want to get a medal in the netball, which would be massive for them."
It had been thought the Hull Chevrons player would only be out for a month with her latest injury, but key hole surgery last week has shown a torn ACL ligament.
The former Beverley High School pupil sustained the injury playing for Hymers in the Hull Schools under-19 championship.
Hymers needed only a draw in their final game to win and progress to the next round of the National Schools Championship and were two goals up when Morgan's knee gave away against Hull College.
"This year our Hymers team have been unbeaten in all our games but one and we were winning that game before I got the injury come back on my knee at the Hull schools event," said the former Tickton Primary School pupil, who has to do 200 shots on goal a day as part of her training as a goal shooter.
"We needed to just draw our final game against Hull College and we were winning by two goals when I went down with my knee and we ended up losing by just one goal.
"I thought we had won and gone through because I was in the hospital unconscious because of all the gas and air I had been given to numb the pain, but when I came round they told me we had lost.
"I was gutted when I got injured again, but I've got the motivation to keep on going."
Morgan, who has twice been to the national finals with Chevrons, is looking to get back into light jogging by April and be doing conditioning during the summer ahead of her scheduled return later this year.
She is also hoping to be accepted to do medicine at Glasgow University from September so that she can be close to the Scotland squad's training base.
