Philip Seymour Hoffman has joined the cast of the much-hyped Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.
The acclaimed actor will take on the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in the film, which is based on the Suzanne Collins novels that have sold 36 million copies in the US alone.
In the sequel, young Katniss Everdeen returns home after winning the 74th Hunger Games and is forced to undertake a victor's parade of the post-apocalyptic Panem's district.
Michael Fassbender, last seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus as the odd android David, is to suit up for a spot of historical assassin- ation.
