Mum and daughter who had dozens of cats, 10 dogs and a squirrel admit 12 charges of animal cruelty
A MOTHER and daughter who were found to be keeping more than 60 animals have admitted 12 charges of cruelty.
Kindred Hummer, 47, and Lauren Stead, 22, were prosecuted by the RSPCA after inspectors discovered the huge number of animals, including a grey squirrel known as Arnold, in their home.
They pleaded guilty to three charges relating to the welfare of the animals in May, and admitted a further nine offences at Beverley Magistrates' Court yesterday.
The pair, of Grimston Road in Anlaby, pleaded not guilty to four further charges, which were then dismissed.
Three of the charges Ms Hummer and Ms Stead have admitted related to a female Shar Pei dog called Phoebe.
The pair admitted causing unnecessary suffering to Phoebe, a protected animal under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, by failing to provide veterinary care for her skin disease, bilateral ear infection and conjunctivitis.
The defendants also admitted failing to provide a constant supply of fresh drinking water for 45 cats and not addressing the poor condition and weight loss of various cats.
Two further charges related to a cream and black pug called Alfie, with the pair failing to provide veterinary care for his skin condition, eye disease and prolapsed eye.
The final charge the pair both pleaded guilty to was causing unnecessary suffering to a female bulldog called Jenny by failing to provide veterinary care for her bilateral skin infection.
Ms Stead also pleaded guilty to failing to maintain the appropriate body condition of a black and cream cat called Sunny, a brown and cream cat called Francine and a tabby cat called Claudia.
Ms Hummer admitted failing to maintain the appropriate body condition of another cat.
Ms Hummer and Ms Stead previously admitted failing to seek treatment for Jenny's ingrown toenail.
They also admitted two charges of causing unnecessary suffering to 41 cats.
In an RSPCA raid in August last year, officers discovered more than 50 cats and kittens in the Hummers' three-bedroom semi-detached home.
Inspectors also found ten dogs and a grey squirrel.
The cost of boarding and veterinary care of the animals found in the raid is thought to have run into tens of thousands of pounds.
All of the animals involved have been signed over to the RSPCA, apart from 21 cats.
Ms Hummer and Ms Stead were released on unconditional bail at Beverley Magistrates' Court. They will be sentenced next month.

“It's a shame about the neglected animals but what about people who want dogs and then leaven them at home all day on their own. I am talking about dogs that are pets and not guard dogs. My neighbour's dogs do my head in. They leave them on their own outside all day and all night and constantly bark when they are not at home. Anything sets them off barking. IfI open the back door, or kitchen window or even just open or close the curtains at the back of the house they bark and just don't shut up. It's doing my head in. Thing is the dogs are really friendly. If I go around there they stop barking and want to play. I spent an hour with them last week and they loved it. As soon as I came back home they started barking again. All they want is love and attention. They never get taken out or walked. This is cruelty too but if I rang the RSPCA all they would be interested in is do they have shelter if it rains and water. My neighbours should not be allowed to have dogs and treat them like this.”
