A PRIVATE hospital in Cottingham has been bought by the NHS in a multi-million pound deal, the Mail can reveal.

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has taken over the Hull Nuffield Hospital in the grounds of Castle Hill.

Nuffield Hospitals have already sold off nine of their sites to another healthcare provider, but it is extremely unusual for a NHS trust to make such a purchase.

Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust also plans to spend £1m to bring the private facilities up to national standards, it is believed.

The amount the trust paid for the hospital remains undisclosed.

Sources say the 38-bed private hospital will help the trust to address problems with privacy and individual patient care.

It will offer breast surgery and other services in its three major operating theatres and one minor theatre, enabling thousands more patients to be treated in Hull and East Yorkshire, it is claimed.

Hull and East Riding Hospitals NHS Trust was unable to comment on the development, which the Mail understands will be launched officially by Health Secretary and Hull West and Hessle MP Alan Johnson tomorrow.

    “Basically yeah!
When the govenment say NHS Standards, what they're really saying is:
"How long did the scientists say it would take untill the plague comes back??"”

“so does that mean the standards will mean that the private hospital will be the same as n.h.s meaning there`ll be more infections on the wards.”

“If the NHS has to spend £1M to bring this hospital up to NHS standards it beggers belief what Nuffield are doing with a hospital BELOW NHS standards. Message to all private health contributers - dont pay for inferior treatments!!!”

    “OMG!

    I do not believe this!
Why on earth is the NHS buying Private Hospitals with money that should be used to improve the hospitals it's already got to standards that expected of us.
It's no wonder the NHS is having problems it's been having.
I think it's time for the Big Cheeses wearing steaphoscopes to look whats actually happening!!”
