    aiming high: John Marshall.

The night, which launches next Tuesday at the Silver Street bar, is organised by comedy supremo John Marshall, aka Agraman The Human Anagram, who famously gave Peter Kay his first paid show on the stand-up circuit and runs a number of comedy nights across the region under the Buzz Comedy banner.

John says his aim is to bring national standard stand-up to Hull.

He said: "The standard of comedy will be equal to any billing at the Comedy Store, Highlight or Jongleurs, or indeed televised shows such as Live At The Apollo."

Headlining the night will be comedy circuit veteran Simon Bligh, who John describes as "explosively funny".

He says: "Imagine the biting sarcasm and manic physicality of Basil Fawlty coupled with the facial grimaces of Lee Evans, then add a relentlessly cheerful chatty charm, and you are some way to understanding his act."

Joining Bligh will be Dan Bland, whose "non-threatening charm conceals a heart of darkness".

The third act is Kevin Dewsbury, whose act is reminiscent of Eddie Izzard.

"He has an ability to mimic any accent," says John. "And he demonstrates why it may not, after all, be a good idea to pronounce European cities names the way the locals do.

"He also demonstrates the pitfalls of pretending to be Irish in an Irish-themed pub."

The compere for the night will be Mancunian funnyman Jay Hampson, who won the Hull Comedy Festival comedian of the year in 2011.

As a special launch night promotion the venue is doing a ticket, table and two-course meal offer for £10.

Following the launch gig, Comedy @ Garbo's will return on the last Tuesday of every month.
