Four Nations: KR duo in, but FC pair out
HULL KR duo Shaun Briscoe and Peter Fox have today been named in the England squad for the Four Nations.
There is no place however for Hull FC stars Danny Tickle or Tom Briscoe, who have been left out after spending the past three week's in Tony Smith's train-on squad.
Tom Briscoe and Tickle can console themselves however after being named in the 20-man squad to face Wales on Saturday.
The match is England's only warm-up game before opening their Four Nations account against France on Friday October 23.
With those players who featured in the Grand Final for Leeds and St Helens given a week's rest, Smith has chosen Briscoe, Tickle and a selection of others who have not made the Four Nations squad to bolster his side for the Wales test.
Winning selection to the final 24-man Four Nations squad, Shaun Briscoe and Peter Fox both remain on course to open the tournament as part of Smith's starting 13.
Fox has also been named to face Wales on Saturday night and will be targeting a good performance to improve his chance of featuring a week later.
Smith has named three new faces in his 24-man
squad. Sam Tomkins, the 2009 Super League Young Player of the Year,
is joined by Warrington Wolves utility back Chris Bridge and Kyle
Eastmond, the St Helens half-back who delivered a strong performance in
defeat at Old Trafford last Saturday.
Tomkins and Bridge are also included in Smith’s 20-man squad for the international against Wales at The Brewery Field,
Bridgend.
All three players short-listed for the 2009 Super League Young
Player of the Year award, Tomkins, Eastmond and Richie Myler, are
included in England’s Four Nations squad, which also features
three other players aged under 21.
“It’s great to see some young and fresh faces in there, this is very
much a squad for now and a squad which looks to the future,” said
Smith.
“These young players will do a good job for us alongside the wealth of experience that exists elsewhere in the squad. The depth of talent reflects the increasing numbers of exciting young players who are emerging from engage Super League.”
The Four Nations squad is drawn from 11 clubs, 10 from
Super League and one from the NRL, Wests Tigers who are
represented by Gareth Ellis.
Leeds have the greatest
presence with five players: Kevin Sinfield, Danny McGuire, Ryan Hall,
Lee Smith and Jamie Peacock, while St Helens have four representatives in Kyle Eastmond, James Graham, James Roby and Jon Wilkin

“Ian,So you think Peter Fox will be out of his depth? How do you think our centres will do against the likes of Greg Inglis?”

“Briscoe thoroughly deserves his chance and i hope he does well. Fox will be well and truly out of his depth against the Aussies and the Kiwis and i'm afraid to say this will be exposed.”

“At last a thread not hijacked by the Rovers obsessed Fc fans,
They'd have been the first on here gloating had Shaun and Peter not been picked in the squad though.”

“If Hull FC have a board who's members are all Leeds Rhino's supporters......how come Hull beat the Rhinos in the 2005 cup final and all the board members celebrated the win?”

“I get it now darren. You hope by pretending to be thick that people won't realise that you really are.
Last YEAR was 2008 Hull lost in the final and were at one point in the second half leading the game. Therefore nearly won the cup.
Your question stated in the last 2 seasons. Hence my answer.
You aren't fooling anyone by the way!”
