Icommute to and from Hull on a daily basis from Hedon and cringe on a daily basis at near-miss accidents on the stupid traffic light system at the Great Union Street, Plimsoll Way roundabout in Garrison Road.

The roundabout is of very poor design and the high landscaped centre should be removed so you can see in advance what is on the other side.

  1. 'POOR DESIGN': The Garrison Road roundabout.

'POOR DESIGN': The Garrison Road roundabout.

I have got halfway round to suddenly stop sharply as LGVs, etc, are sticking out across the inside lane and have also witnessed erratic driving of other motorists suddenly shooting into the outside lane trying to get around traffic queuing at the lights.

I understand that some roundabouts have lights on them but in places like York, King's Lynn and London the roundabouts are far larger leaving plenty of room for queues.

Please, Hull City Council, remove the landscaping on the roundabout and just pave it so you can clearly see what's around the corner before some unfortunate person ends up driving into the rear of a trailer or some other poor person waiting at the lights to get home.

I don't know who is paid to think of traffic solutions but to me they need sacking as Hull's answer to congestion is more lights or blocking roads off altogether, such as closing the crossing at Market Place in Hull, meaning all traffic has to go through the narrow roads of High Street, which are not designed for heavy commuter rush.

Learn from Colchester please, Hull City Council, more roundabouts and fewer lights.

M Smith, Hedon.
