Newland hold nerve to clinch Division One title

EYCA CRICKET DIVISION ONE

NEWLAND clinched the Division One title after beating Skirlaugh.

Skirlaugh were all out for 93 with T Havercroft top scoring with 37 and Des Hepworth taking 4 for 15.

Newland struggled and lost seven wickets before they edged to the title with Darren Fox (39 not out) seeing them home.

Patrington clinched the runners-up spot when they won at Fenner, who were all out for 126 with Stuart Perkings top scoring with 25 and Robert Metcalfe taking 2 for 9.

Patrington reached their target for the loss of four wickets with Glen Ratcliffe (51) and Rich Vickers (21) seeing them home.

Pelican finished fourth despite losing at Eastrington. The hosts rattled up 249 for 5 with Paul Briggs top scoring with 136 and Chris Crampton adding 65.

Pelican were out for 157 with Mark Smedley 62 and Jonny Chapman 34, while Shane Chatham took 4 for 18.

North Ferriby look set to be relegated, despite winning at Beverley Town who were all out for 110 with Ray Teall coming out of retirement to score 59, while Rich Duncan (3 for 15) and R Hodgson (3 for 34) took the bowling honours.

Ferriby reached their target for the loss of seven wickets with J Oaks (24 not out) and Duncan (30) seeing them home while Sam Horton (2 for 30) and Ian Goforth (2 for 17) kept the pressure on the batsmen.

Driffield look down and out after losing to Hull Ionians Coal Exporters.

Batting first, the hosts scored 215 for 7 with J Foster (54) and Damian Jenkinson (47) leading the way while Andy Reeve took 4 for 36 for the visitors.

The Ionians' batsmen were also in form with D Whalen (74) and Shaun Johnson (86 not out) seeing them to victory and safe from relegation.

Cottingham clinched the Division Two title by getting the better of a draw with East Halton on Bank Holiday Monday.

They extended their lead to 53 points with one game left after beating second place Patrington by 102 runs.

Hessle claimed the runners-up spot after a convincing win at Gilberdyke.

Hessle scored 189 for 9 with Mark Rudston top scoring with 70 and Dave Meer taking 4 for 33.

Gilberdyke were all out for 77 with Rudston taking 4 for 8 and Craig Elder 3 for 8.
