North Ferriby fought back to avoid their third league loss on the bounce last night as they secured a 1-1 draw with Matlock Town at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Matlock had most of the play in the first ten minutes but were unable to create any clear cut chances, although they took the lead in the 21st minute through Ian Holmes.

Ferriby came out and dominated the second half and Lee Morris had a good game up front.

His side finally got the goal they deserved in the 77th minute when Russell Fry shot home after the ball bounced around the Matlock area.

The results leaves the Villagers with a 12-point cushion to the last relegation place.

“Billy Heath is not one for the passing game. He wants the ball forward quickly and play from there. In reality most teams play like this. However, I notice a number of the better footballers have left recently (Harsley, Davidson, Bennett etc) which would suggest the constant bellowing from the side line to to lump it forward is not to everyone's taste. I wish them well though, as there is no other local team playing anywhere near the standard Ferriby are playing at. In a city the size of Hull you'd think we'd have a couple of teams playing at this level. On a different note, I was very impressed by the actions of a Ferriby committee member at the last game I went to. Don't know his name, but he ejected a home fan for using racist language towards an opposition player. No messing straight out as soon as he said it. Well done to him and Ferriby.”

“I went to the game last night and two evenly match teams in the first half. A lot of long ball but when Ferriby did play on the floor they played some neat football and created some 1/2 chances. In the second half it followed a similar pattern but was a scrappy affair with probably 70-30 possession for Ferriby rewarded with the goal, struggling to remember too many other really good openings. The ref (10 yards) and lino(20 yards) missed a blatant shirt pull on Wayne Brooksby in the box, well I saw it from 45 yards away, which would have given them a chance to win. Morris was very good upfront and Anderson excellent at the back. Enjoyed the evening and would like Ferriby to play the ball around a bit more Bradshaw isn't going to win many in the air against big centre halfs, when the ball went into feet things developed.”
