Northern Ireland call up Hull City's Alex Bruce
Hull City's Alex Bruce has been called up by Northern Ireland for the first time - after switching allegiance from the Republic.
He has been named in Michael O'Neill's 24-man squad, along with fellow Tigers Joe Dudgeon and Corry Evans, for the World Cup qualifier against Portugal.
-

World Cup chance: Alex Bruce may find himself facing Christiano Ronaldo.
Bruce played for the Republic of Ireland at under-21 level and in two senior friendlies.
Bruce, who has been ruled out of the Tigers' match at Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow with a groin strain, was born in England but qualifies through grandparents.

“He's about as Irish as a giraffe! He'd have had even more chance of a game if he had signed up with the Botswana national team. Or how about Bhutan? To play for Northern Ireland he'll have to pass the Irish citizenship test - drink fourteen pints of Guinness and do an Irish jig with a donkey called Siobhan.”
